QSMP Global's Announcement[1]

QSMP Carnaval, also known as the Brazilian Carnival, was a mini-event that was held on February 13th, 2024 (Day 326 of QSMP). This event celebrates and honors the Brazilian cultural event of the same name, generally celebrated for 5 days in Brazil.

Symbols[]

Carnaval is an annual festival celebrated in Brazil and many other countries around the world. It's a lively and colorful event that marks the beginning of Lent, the 40-day period of fasting and reflection before Easter in the Christian calendar. It's a time of joy, music, dance, and vibrant parades that showcase the rich cultural heritage!

Carnaval has deep roots in both European and African cultures. It's believed to have originated from pagan celebrations honoring fertility rites and the arrival of spring. When European settlers brought Christianity to Brazil, these traditions merged with African rhythms and dances brought by enslaved Africans, giving birth to the lively Carnaval we know today.

Carnaval Music[]

From the pulsating drums of the surdo to the melodic notes of the cuica, Carnaval music features a rich array of instruments. Samba lyrics often tell stories of love, joy, and the spirit of Carnaval itself and, whether it's the energetic Axé of Bahia or the lively Frevo of Pernambuco, there's a rhythm for everyone to enjoy!

Samba Schools[]

One of the highlights of Brazilian Carnaval is the parade of samba schools. These are large groups of performers who compete in Rio de Janeiro's Sambadrome, showcasing their intricate costumes, elaborate floats, and electrifying samba routines. Each school represents a specific neighborhood or community and spends months preparing for the event.

Blocos[]

Blocos are neighborhood street parties where people gather to dance, sing, and celebrate. These gatherings are open to everyone and often feature live music, DJs, and colorful costumes. Blocos cater to a wide range of tastes, from traditional samba to funk, reggae, and electronic music.

Regional Celebrations[]

Each region of Brazil puts its own spin on Carnaval. In Salvador, Bahia, "trios elétricos" (musical floats) lead massive street parties. Recife and Olinda host frevo and maracatu performances, adding cultural richness to the festivities.

Bonecos de Olinda[]

Bonecos de Olinda are famous giant puppets made of paper-mâché and cloth, a popular feature of Carnaval in the city of Olinda, Brazil. These colorful figures are paraded through the streets as a form of cultural expression, often depicting historical figures, politicians, celebrities, or fictional characters.

Galo da Madrugada[]

Galo da Madrugada, or the "Rooster of the Dawn," is one of the world's largest Carnaval parades, held in Recife, Brazil. This massive event features elaborate floats, live music, and over a million participants.

Carnaval Around the World[]

Carnaval isn't just in Brazil! From Mardi Gras in New Orleans to Carnaval de Nice in France, celebrations worldwide feature their own cultural twists. More than just parties, they unite communities in celebrating diversity and creativity. Whether you're dancing or watching, embrace the joy and togetherness. Happy Carnaval!

History[]

Prior to the Event - Day 324[]

On day 324, many islanders were asked to make floats by Sk8board the Penguin. Mike made an float with an ostrich, referencing his aviary, Bagi made a capybara in reference to Alexandre, Foolish made a float in reference to Richarlyson, Baghera made a float of herself, bearing a strong resemblance to the "Bonecos de Olinda", Philza made a float of a pumpkin with a skull in the front, in reference to his son, Chayanne, and Missa. Roier made a penguin from Club Penguin with his iconic hair and headband, a reference to the emotes in his chat. Bad made a float resembling the ghost bell he uses to let the ghosties breathe. Willyrex made a turtle, in reference to Trotuman.

Event Day - Day 326[]

All aboard! Guided by the Penguins, everyone gathered at the brand-new Train Station, where decorative adornments were all around.

Stopping right in front of the gates, residents stepped out of the machine to admire the beautiful, colorful street that lay in front of them. Each float was more whimsical than the other! Cucurucho, alongside the fairy capybara, certainly captured full attention at the parade.

Come hungry, leave happy! From savory sandwiches to mouthwatering cakes, the food stalls had it all to keep guests entertained.

Who needs a regular game when you've got this level of creativity? Split into teams with Richarlyson as the ball, Fit, Bad, and Mike clinched this soccer victory!

Ready to hunt for treasure? Special items were hidden all around, engaging islanders to interact and aid each other to find everything!

From belting out tunes to being mesmerized by the fireworks, it was a night to remember in the famous trio elétrico.

Capturing the memories in one final snapshot! Everyone gathered in front of the Cucurucho's float, bidding farewell to yet another spectacular event. Until next year, Carnaval!
